    • Who are you ? Let me make an educated guess.

    • You are likely to be someone who has a good technical experience of the job you do. You know your work. You know what happens before the work reaches you and what happens after it leaves you. You know how and when to make work decisions and choices. You have attained a degree of seniority in your job.

    • Now you are faced with a fairly new problem. You have been asked to give somebody some training. The technical side of the training presents you with absolutely no trouble. You know exactly what should be done, and when and how it should be done. Technically you are on safe ground.

    • Your experience as a trainer, however, is limited. You know a lot about your industry, but you have little experience in the orgaisation and presentation of information. You may need some guidance in adopting the distinctive and specialized role of the trainer. Your experience of training may be limited to your time at school, and if you aim to be a trainer (even an occasional trainer) this may be of no great help. It may even be a disadvantage. Because adult learning is very different from child education.

    • So if you are a person with technical skills, with work experience and with a need to begin to train people, this is the book for you. It will explain the who, what, where, when, why and how of training. It will give you lots of checklists, questionnaires, examples and approaches along the way, and it will show you how to produce your training package in a neat and certified way.
